Begin with the Tie You Actually Wear
Some scarves look wonderful spread flat and spend most of their life in a drawer. We would rather help you choose one that leaves the house. Think about the last scarf you wore without fuss. Did you knot it once at the neck, fold it over your hair, or let the ends fall over a coat? That small memory is a better starting point than color alone.
Our 52–53 cm squares make a tidy neckerchief, ponytail tie, wrist wrap or bag accent. They use less fabric around the knot, so the print appears in quick flashes rather than as a complete picture. The 65 cm square gives the same general shape with more room to fold and soften the knot. It is the middle ground for someone who finds a small square a little neat but does not need full head or shoulder coverage.
An 88 cm Square Lets the Artwork Open Up
The Illustrated and Jungle Reverie scarves measure 88×88 cm. At that size, a border, animal or landscape has space to read before the scarf is folded. The extra fabric also makes a fuller head wrap, a shoulder layer or a larger triangle at the front of a jacket.
More cloth changes the styling, not the quality ranking. If you prefer a crisp knot close to a shirt collar, an 88 cm square can feel like too much. If you want the print to carry the outfit, the larger square earns its place. Open the product images and look at the whole composition as well as the folded view; both matter once it is worn.
Charmeuse Moves; Twill Remembers the Fold
Most pieces here use silk charmeuse, with a smooth face and fluid movement. The Printed Silk Twill Small Square Scarf has a diagonal weave that gives the fold a little more hold. Neither is a substitute for the other. Charmeuse suits a softer knot and a surface that catches light as it moves. Twill is useful when you want a small scarf to keep a cleaner line near the neck or hair.
The long herringbone scarf is lighter again at 8 Momme. Its 60×175 cm shape can hang, loop or sit across the shoulders without the starting step of folding a square. The Rosy Garland long scarf is 12 Momme charmeuse and slightly narrower. Compare those dimensions before assuming every long scarf will make the same volume around the neck.
The Hem Is a Fact, Not a Shortcut for “Better”
Only our Lightweight Herringbone Long Scarf currently lists hand-rolled edges. The other scarves use machine hemming. We show the distinction because finishing is part of what you are buying, not because one phrase should decide the purchase for you. A neat machine hem can suit an everyday scarf well; a hand-rolled edge gives the herringbone piece a more artisanal finish.
Check the specification on the individual product instead of applying one edge claim to the whole collection. The same rule applies to Momme: these scarves range from 8 to 14 Momme because their sizes and weaves ask for different movement.
Store the Print Where It Can Breathe
Silk does not enjoy being rubbed against a zipper, soaked in strong detergent or left to fade in a sunny window. After wear, loosen the knot rather than pulling one end through tightly. If cleaning is needed, follow the label on that scarf; printed silk usually benefits from cold water, silk-safe detergent, minimal handling and drying away from direct light.
Fold it without pressing the same crease every time, and give long scarves enough drawer space that their hems are not trapped under hardware. Our silk care guide covers the general routine. For gifting, choose by the recipient’s usual way of dressing before browsing our silk gift ideas. A beautiful print is more personal when its size also fits the life of the person wearing it.
FAQs
Which silk scarf size is easiest to wear at the neck?
A 52–53 cm square is the neatest option for a small neck knot. Choose 65 cm if you want a softer, fuller tie. The final volume also depends on the weave and how many times the scarf is folded.
Can the larger square scarves be worn over the hair?
The 88×88 cm squares provide more coverage than the small styles and can be folded into a head scarf. Check the finished dimensions and try the fold without pulling the hem tightly.
Are all THXSILK scarf edges hand rolled?
No. The Lightweight Herringbone Mulberry Silk Long Scarf currently lists hand-rolled edges. The other nine products list machine hemming. Read the specification on the exact scarf before ordering.
How do I choose between silk twill and silk charmeuse?
Choose twill when you want a small square with a little more structure in the fold. Choose charmeuse for a smoother face and more fluid movement. Size and print may matter more than weave for your usual styling method.
