Momme describes the weight of woven silk. It can help you compare a 19, 22 or 25 Momme pillowcase, sheet or duvet cover, but it does not tell you the warmth of a comforter, the fit of a bonnet or everything included in a bedding set. A higher number also is not automatically the best choice for every sleeper. Some people want a lighter drape; others prefer more body.

Use the Momme filter only when you are comparing similar woven pieces. Then read the product page for construction, filling, closure, measurements and care. That combination tells you more than one number can.

Silk changes with the light, which is part of its appeal—and one reason two very different products can look similar on a screen. Before ordering, check the material line, what is included, the exact measurements and the care instructions for that item. A silk-filled comforter is not the same construction as a silk duvet cover. A sheet set is not the same purchase as one fitted sheet. A silk blend should be named as a blend rather than presented as pure silk.
