Mulberry Silk Sleep Caps & Bonnets
We make our silk sleep caps for the part of hair care that happens while you are not thinking about it. Smooth mulberry silk helps reduce overnight rubbing and tangling; the right band, tie and amount of room help the cap stay comfortable until morning. Choose for your hair and the way you sleep—not for a one-size promise.

A Silk Bonnet Only Helps If You Want to Keep It On
The bonnet goes on after the rest of the routine is finished. Hair may already hold a leave-in conditioner, a braid, a blowout or yesterday's curls. By then, the last thing anyone wants is another item that needs adjusting in bed.
That is why we begin with comfort. Our silk sleep caps place a smooth layer around the hair, helping strands meet less rubbing as the head moves across the pillow. Less friction can mean fewer tangles, less pulling and a better chance of keeping curls or a style together until morning. The silk cannot repair damaged hair, and no cap can promise a frizz-free result every day. It can change what your hair rubs against for several hours at a time—and that is a meaningful part of an overnight routine.
Start with the Hair You Need to Fit Inside
Short or fine hair usually needs less interior room. Too much empty fabric can move around and make the cap easier to lose. Long curls, coils, braids and thick hair need space so the ends are not tightly folded into a small pocket. Our extra-large style gives fuller hair somewhere to rest instead of asking it to compress.
Gather hair loosely before placing it inside. Long hair can be folded gently or arranged in a loose pineapple, depending on the cap shape and the style you want to preserve. Avoid twisting everything into a tight knot simply to make it fit; that replaces pillow friction with tension at the roots.
Elastic, Ribbon or Double Layer Feels Different at 2 A.M.
An elastic edge is quick: put it on, make sure the hairline is covered and go to bed. It suits someone who dislikes tying a bow in the dark. A ribbon gives more control over tightness, but the knot needs to sit where it will not press against the pillow or neck. An adjustable band offers another route when a fixed elastic feels too loose or too firm.
A double layer has more body and places silk against the hair on both sides of the cap. Some people enjoy that fuller feel; warm sleepers or anyone sensitive to extra fabric may prefer a lighter construction. Secure does not mean tight. A band that leaves a deep mark, causes a headache or slides toward the eyes is not the right fit.
Morning Hair Begins with Less Overnight Disturbance
Hair does not need a miracle while you sleep. It needs fewer reasons to snag, dry out and lose the shape you set before bed. The smooth surface of mulberry silk reduces mechanical friction compared with rougher fabrics. It also absorbs less moisture than many common textiles, which may help hair hold on to more of its own moisture and applied products.
Curly and coily hair often shows the difference most clearly because definition can be disturbed by repeated rubbing. Straight, fine and chemically treated hair can also benefit from less tangling and pulling. Results still depend on hair condition, products, humidity and how the cap fits.
Bonnet and Pillowcase Do Different Work
A bonnet keeps the hair gathered inside a smooth surface. A mulberry silk pillowcase remains underneath the face and any hair that escapes. Some people use both. Others choose the pillowcase because they dislike having anything around the head, or because every cap they try comes off during sleep.
Neither choice is a test of commitment to hair care. If a bonnet wakes you, it is working against sleep. Change the closure, choose a roomier or smaller shape, or let the pillowcase take over.
Wash What Your Hair Leaves Behind
Hair oils, conditioners and styling products collect inside a cap. Regular washing keeps that contact surface fresh. Follow the product label; for most silk caps, cool handwashing with pH-neutral silk detergent is the gentlest routine. Do not wring the fabric or stretch the band while wet.
Press out water with a towel and air-dry in shade. Make sure double-layer and elastic areas dry fully before wearing the cap again. If you use a bonnet every night, rotating two can make gentle care much easier. General instructions are in our silk care guide.
Silk Sleep Caps FAQs
How do I stop a silk bonnet from falling off at night?
Check hair volume and head fit first. A cap that is too large can slide, while a band that is too tight may creep upward. Try an adjustable band or ribbon if a fixed elastic is not working, and place the closure where it will not press against your usual sleeping position.
Which silk bonnet is best for long or curly hair?
Choose enough interior room for your length, curls, coils or braids to sit without being tightly packed. Our extra-large and roomier styles are the first place to look; confirm dimensions and closure on the individual product page.
Can fine or short hair wear a silk sleep cap?
Yes. A smaller or more adjustable shape usually works better than an oversized cap because excess fabric may move around fine or short hair. The band should feel secure without leaving pressure marks.
Is a double-layer bonnet better?
It offers more structure and silk coverage, but it is not automatically better for every sleeper. A lighter cap may feel more comfortable in a warm room or for someone sensitive to extra fabric.
Do I need a silk pillowcase if I use a bonnet?
Not necessarily. A pillowcase can cover hair that slips out and gives the face a smooth contact surface. It is also a practical alternative when you do not enjoy wearing a bonnet.
How often should I wash my silk bonnet?
It depends on hair oils and styling products. Wash when the inside no longer feels fresh or shows product buildup. Follow the label, use cool water and silk detergent, and let the cap dry completely.
